I See You

I see you standing there

Across the street

I have waited for you

I have longed for you

I have reached for you

I wait for the walk sign to turn on

And when it does

I freeze

I stop dead in my tracks

Unable to walk to you

You see my hesitation

And you wave me to come to you

But I don’t

My mind is racing with thoughts

And I scream over and over that I long for you

But my body doesn’t move

You tell me I am safe 

You tell me that no cars are coming 

I won’t get hit

If I walk to you

You say that you will protect me

But I still don’t move

The cross sign turns back to red

And that is all I see

Please give up and keep walking away from me

But instead, you keep waiting for the next time it is safe for me to walk to you

Oh, lord, you are so patient

I don’t deserve you

I don’t deserve your unwavering love

And you know this

But you still offer it

Jesus, you still provide me with everything.
