Growing up
Growing up is complicated
You feel like you are on a timer
Needing to accomplish things by a specific time and date
Rushing to be a certain age
Pushing yourself past your boundaries
To feel like you belong in the crowd
Always looking for the next thing
And wishing current moments away
When you're 15, you’re dying to reach 16
When freedom begins
When your teenage life truly starts
When you are exposed to new things
And are at the mercy of the world
When you're 16, you’re dying to be 17
A gap in age
An age that feels right
You're 17 and the world is your oyster
No responsibility
But you are dying to be 18, then 19
And so on
I would say to you
Pause
And look around
Because as the days go by, nothing will ever be like they were.
